Abdulvahid Karimov (“Bukhori”) — a Master Reviving the Tradition of Bukhara Blue Ceramics
Abdulvahid Karimov, known by his artistic name Bukhori, has dedicated his life to reviving an ancient Bukhara ceramic tradition that had been lost for more than a century. His chosen name itself reflects a profound connection to the cultural legacy of Bukhara.
A central focus of his work is the reconstruction of the ancient plant-based ishkora glaze. The master personally gathers the plants, processes the raw materials, and experiments with historical formulas, striving for complete authenticity in every piece.
Karimov also brings back the tradition of white-ground Samanid ceramics, adorned with calligraphy and Arabic inscriptions—one of the most complex and refined forms of historical ceramic art. His works are distinguished by their precision, craftsmanship, and deep reverence for tradition.
